Inflamed and sore throat

There are various reasons why a sore throat may occur:

  • overuse of the voice
  • smoking cigarettes or inhaling other mucosal irritants
  • dryness, dry indoor climate, draughts
  • viral or bacterial infections

A sore throat often occurs with a common cold.
You know the typical signs: Burning, scratching, dryness in the throat and difficulty swallowing. These are usually the precursors of a typical cold. However, if the sore throat is very severe and persistent or accompanied by shortness of breath, you must check with a doctor, because you may have inflamed tonsils, i.e. tonsillitis or other infectious diseases requiring treatment.

Why do colds usually start with a sore throat?

The throat area is the entry point of most pathogens into our bodies. Therefore, we have the most intensive monitoring and defence system here: The tonsils form a proper defence ring with the mucous membranes. As soon as the immune cells located there are activated, they work at full speed. This is felt by swelling and inflammation – first in the throat area. Later, the nasal mucous membranes swell up. We develop a runny nose. The inflammation may also spread to the mucous membranes of the sinuses, leading to sinusitis. Inflamed mucous membranes of the airways cause a cough.

What are the tonsils and what is tonsillitis?

The pharyngeal, lingual, and palatal tonsils are organs of the lymphatic system. They are also called tonsils. They are lymphatic tissue in which a particularly high number of immune cells are located that are immediately activated and propagated in case of an infection. The tonsils lie like a ring of defence in the area of the throat - the entry point of most germs. In the context of an infection, the tonsils themselves may also become inflamed - tonsillitis develops.

Get rid of sore throats, gently

Recurrent tonsillitis is a sign of an active immune system and a temporary overload of these lymphatic organs. Supporting the lymphatic system is beneficial, especially in the case of frequent or persistent infections.

Homeopathic complex agents, such as Tonsillopas®, are established remedies in cases of an acute sore throat, but also in other inflammations of the throat.

A good homeopathic sore throat remedy, such as Tonsillopas ® drops, acts at all stages: It supports the immune response, and relieves inflammation, swelling, and pain.

Tonsillopas®

Tonsillopas is available in the same formula as both drops and tablets.

Six natural active substances complement each other:

  • Wild indigo (baptisia tinctoria), also called “the reliever”, helps with infections, colds, and difficulty swallowing.
  • Ammonium bromatum helps to relieve upper airway inflammation, hoarseness, and dry coughs.
  • Bee venom (apisinum) is also known as “the decongestant” and helps the body to fight inflammations and swelling.
  • The anti-inflammatory, Mercurius cyanatus, can help with tonsil and throat inflammation and swallowing difficulties.
  • Kali bichromicum – the ENT specialist – helps with respiratory mucosal inflammation, throat soreness, tonsillitis, and sinusitis .
  • Kali chloratum – the mouth and throat balm helps with mucosal swelling and tonsillitis.

Tips for mouth and throat inflammation:

  • Increase humidity in the bedroom
  • Ventilate environment well in the morning
  • Gurgle with chamomile tea, thyme tea, or sage tea
  • Drink plenty, especially fresh juices and warm beverages, such as tea or drinks with ginger, lemon and honey. The fluid keeps the mucous membranes moist.
  • Various oils for inhalation or skin application.
  • Throat compresses with quark, potato, lemon or even essential oils. These are good for soothing the throat and loosening the mucus.
  • Take full baths with essential oils as an additive. Full baths may relieve coughs.
