Support of the lymphatic system
Lymph is formed in the tissues in all parts of the body and then flows through the lymphatic vessels toward the heart, where it joins the blood vessel system near the heart. The so called lymph nodes are built into the lymph vessel system. Lymph nodes are the centres where all immune responses are coordinated - just like the tonsils in the throat. The lymph is cleaned here, i.e. pathogens and harmful substances are degraded. In addition, immune cells (lymphocytes) are activated and increased in number as needed.
The entire lymph from the head drains through the lymph nodes in the neck area. Swollen lymph nodes in the neck are a sign of high activity in the lymphatic system. The gentle handling techniques of manual lymphatic drainage can stimulate lymph flow and eliminate stasis or swelling. Gently applying the Lymphdiaral® sensitiv Salbe N can also support the lymphatic system.
It is best to apply the ointment behind/below the ears, and gently apply it in a circular downward motion towards the area of the potentially swollen lymph nodes in the neck area and in the direction of the clavicle fossa. The ointment is also suitable for an overnight neck wrap.

What is the Lymphdiaral Salbe?
There are 2 ointments on the German market, which are called Lymphdiaral:
- Lymphdiaral® DS
- Lymphdiaral® sensitiv Salbe N
Lymphdiaral® DS is a homeopathic medicine registered with the BfArM (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte. It is therefore without specification of a therapeutic indication. Use is based on homeopathic principles and should be recommended by the therapist.
Lymphdiaral® sensitiv Salbe N is a homeopathic medicine approved by the BfArM. In the declared area of application, it says: for supportive treatment of the local lymphatic system in case of infections of the nose-throat area.
How do the two Lymphdiaral ointments differ?
There are 3 differences:

Why is the use stated on one of the ointments but not on the other?
Lymphdiaral® DS is a homeopathic medicine registered with the BfArM and thus without specified therapeutic indication.
Lymphdiaral® sensitiv Salbe N is a homeopathic medicine approved by the BfArM and thus with specified therapeutic indication.
2. Composition
What are the ingredients of Lymphdiaral Salbe?
The 4 common active ingredients of the two ointments are Calendula, Conium, Mercurius biniodatus and Stibium sulfuratum nigrum. However, the ointments differ by one active substance: Colchicum, autumn crocus. This active substance is only contained in the DS Salbe, but not in the sensitiv Salbe. This affects the use in pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and children. Otherwise, the ointments differ only very slightly in terms of potency or amount of one of the active substances (Stibium sulfuratum nigrum).
The ointment base of the two ointments also differs to a very slight extent, which makes the consistency somewhat different.
3. Limitations of use
Who should not use the ointments?
Due to the active substance Colchicum, which is only contained in the Lymphdiaral® DS Salbe, it must not be used during pregnancy and lactation.
Lymphdiaral® DS may otherwise be used by all adults, adolescents and children aged 7 years and older – provided there are no intolerances to any of the ingredients. In addition, use beyond one week should be medically evaluated.
Lymphdiaral® sensitiv Salbe N may also be used in children aged 2 years and older and in pregnant women and breastfeeding women. Otherwise, the same recommendations apply.
How to use Lymphdiaral® sensitiv Salbe N
There are 2 rules for applying a lymphatic ointment:
- apply it very gently (circular motion). The following applies: “Gentle stroking” is preferable to massage!
- apply it in the direction of lymphatic drainage
In the head area, this means:
- gently apply the ointment to the face (e.g. area of the forehead, nose) or below the ears in a circular motion
- gently spread it in a circular motion toward the lateral neck area (where lymph nodes are concentrated)
- gently spread it in a circular motion down the lateral neck into the so-called clavicle fossa (the hollow above the collarbone)
Unless otherwise prescribed:
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older
Apply a 2-3 cm ribbon of ointment 1 to 3 times daily in the lymph node and lymph drainage area, then use it externally (apply gently) in the area of the symptoms.
Children between 6 and the 12th year of life
No more than two-thirds of the adult dose (up to 2 cm ribbon of ointment) for external use.
Infants from the 2nd to the 6th year of life
No more than half of the adult dose (1-1.5 cm ribbon of ointment) for external use.
