Vitamin D – the power of the sun

Vitamin D has many functions in our body, is involved in many metabolic processes, and has a hormone-like effect. Target sites of action of vitamin D include bones, teeth, immune system, muscle cells, and many others. So you would be right in saying that vitamin D plays a key role in the body.

Vitamin D supply

The body depends on UV radiation to make vitamin D. In the skin, the precursor, previtamin D3, is first formed, which is then converted to active vitamin D3. The invisible UV-B portion of sunlight is responsible for this synthesis. Most vitamin D is produced in the skin of the forearms. Normally, enough vitamin D is produced and stored in the summer to get through the dark winter when UV light is deficient.

But even in the summer, we often get too little sunlight, because we spend most of our time in the office or in enclosed rooms and too little time outdoors. As cells age, their ability to make vitamin D also decreases.

A recent study by the Robert-Koch-Institut indicates a deficit. In the winter months, vitamin D levels were lower still than in the summer.

  • the maintenance of normal muscle function

Consumption recommendation

Vitapas® D 5,600 IU is intended for weekly intake. The recommended intake is 1 capsule (whole) per week and must not be exceeded. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ernährung recommends the daily intake of 20 μg (800 IU).

Olive oil (97.1%) (cold-pressed); capsule shell: humectant glycerine, modified corn starch, gelling agent carrageenan; vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol).
